How to temporarily disable your Instagram account (and how to activate it again)

If you need to stay away from social networks for a while and you are looking to temporarily turn off an Instagram account, the good news is that there is a very simple way to do it.

The first thing you should consider is that when you deactivate it, nobody will be able to access your content or your profile : see your photos, follow your account, comment on past publications, etc.

How to temporarily disable an Instagram account

Anyone who wants to temporarily deactivate their account must know that it can not be done from the application , since it will be necessary to resort to the web version.

Once we have logged into the web version of Instagram, we will have to click on the icon that takes us to our profile and click on the option that allows you to edit it.

Bottom right, in blue, we will see a message that tells us that we can “temporarily disable” our account. We have to click on this option to move forward.

It will take us to another page where there is a drop-down menu with several options: “I need a break”, “I created another account”, “I’m worried about privacy”, “I’m too busy / I’m too distracted”, etc.

We will choose the option that matches the reason we have to temporarily leave the social network and will ask for the password to be able to apply the changes.

 How to reactivate it

To reactivate it again, we will simply have to login using the application or the web version. When you log in, it will automatically reactivate , so you will not be able to log into your account without reactivating it.

Anyway, with a simple Google search we will realize that there are many people complaining that they are not able to access their profile again. If you have this problem , you simply have to follow these steps:

  1. Open Instagram and place the username
  2. Press “have you forgotten the password?”
  3. Indicate the email to send the password to login
  4. Enter the email and open the Instagram message to retrieve the password with the username (make sure you put the username correctly)
  5. Change Password
  6. Remove the Instagram application from the mobile and reinstall it
  7. Open the Instagram application and enter the new username and password
