Carport versus Garage

Living without a garage can be tough. You’ve always got to keep your vehicles out on the drive or road and there’s nowhere to store all of life’s junk that you don’t want in the house. Have you ever considered a carport? These are an alternative to a garage and have many benefits which we will look at here:

  • A carport protects your vehicle from rain, frost, snow, hail, dust and the bleaching effects of the sun. All these elements can damage the exterior of your vehicle.
  • A carport means your vehicle is less visible to potential thieves or burglars than it would be if it was parked on the road.
  • Carports are a far cheaper option than having a garage built.

  • Having a garage built is a large project which will require hiring a builder and possibly obtaining planning permission. A garage will usually connect via some kind of doorway into your home which will mean disruption and builders coming and going through your property. With a carport, nobody should need to access your home.
  • Garages can take a few weeks to complete but a carport can be constructed in a day or two.
  • A garage can make your property look much smaller whereas a carport is light, airy and gives the impression of space. It makes a much smaller impact on your property. For information about having an Oak CarPort, visit http://www.bespoaktimberframes.co.uk/portfolio_page/oak-carport/
  • You can do things with a carport that you can’t with a garage. A carport can have many different purposes, for example as a party area filled with tables and chairs for a special celebration. Hang washing from the beams to keep it out of the rain or use it as a covered play area for the kids to keep them out of the rain or hot sun. These are not things that you would use a garage for.
  • A carport can be made to look a lot more attractive than a garage can. You can place potted plants around the edges, hanging baskets or even fairy lights or wind chimes to decorate the exterior of your home.
  • If you love to go crazy with the decorations for Halloween or the festive period then you have the perfect stage for setting up your displays and they will be much better protected from the elements as well.

  • The other big advantage of having a carport is that if you move to a new house, quite often the carport can be taken with you. You can’t take a garage with you when you move! When you’ve invested in a property, it’s nice to think that that investment can be portable and follow you should you move on.
  • Having a garage doesn’t suit everyone’s needs and if you can’t have one for financial reasons or otherwise, a carport offers a useful and versatile alternative. You’ll be able to protect your car, not break the bank, have it up within days and use it for multiple purposes, making it a clever investment.
