Oral hygiene is one of the most important things to practise to avoid tooth loss. Many people know to brush their teeth but not as many do it correctly – teeth should be cleaned twice a day for two minutes in the morning and two at night.

It is also important that you should see a dentist and a hygienist regularly. A dentist is not just there for an emergency – they can spot problems early and stop them from progressing. They are also able to deep clean plaque from the teeth and around the gumline where it can cause gum disease -another cause of tooth loss.

Watching what you eat is also a good thing to do if you want to keep your teeth intact and healthy. Avoid too many sticky and sugary foods as these can cause a lot of plaque to build up on the teeth – this then can cause tooth decay and of course pain in the tooth.
